So I Should Probably Give Away a Book...

So I will. Give away a book, that is :). From now through Tuesday midnight (EDT) anyone who makes a comment on my blog gets an entry. Winner can choose any one of my books.

So tell me...why do you read? What's the primary reason you want/need/have to lose yourself in a book?

  1. A book can take me anywhere that I can imagine, to any time. I can experience anything and do anything.

  2. LOL! Hi, Kaily! Hope your Easter was lovely :) As for why I read--it's a couple reasons, including the "Calgon, take me away!" factor and the pleasure of being reminded of how truly powerful a thing love is. Oh, I could say that I have several primary reasons I need to lose myself in a book, and they all need to be fed and delivered to school this morning ;p

  3. I like to read for entertainment and also as a means of escape. After a hard day at work nothing is better than opening up a really good book and getting lost in the adventures and romance taking place between the pages. Thanks for the contest!

  5. Hi Kaily!

Reading is the way I maintain by sanity, refill the well (so to speak) to manage the rest of the stuffs every day, and of course - for pure pleasure :) HEA's are the best part, IMO and if the book can put a smile in my face along the way - then it's like whipped cream topping ;)

    Need I say more?

  6. Hi Kaily! I love to read, because it relaxes me. There is nothing better than curling up on the couch with a good book! Now that I have a Kindle, it makes my run on the treadmill a whole lot easier!

  8. I read because I live in sever pain and reading not only takes me away from the pain as I get lost in the book but feeds my life from stress of the "real" world. I also like becoming friends with the many favorite authors I have. Getting to know them helps me find books that I love.

  11. Not being able to hear well Books are my TV. I can get lost in the characters and plot like anyone can in a TV show. When reading I can hear everything and not have to keep asking what did they say.

  12. Hi Kaily,

I am a HEA girl, and my favorites shelf is full of stories that are heartfelt and passionate, give me memorable characters that are far from perfect, and make me care. I've been reading all kinds of romance for over 40 years, and I love where a well written story takes me. It's that dip out of reality that can totally recharge me, and that HEA that I've come to expect gives me that feel good moment that carries over into my slice of reality.

  14. I read for my enjoyment and it relaxes me after a long day at work. I get to pretend with the characters in a book and maybe learn something along the way.

  15. I love the escape, the hope, HEA, learning/experiencing new things and places, the relaxation...I could go on. I literally go through irritable withdrawal symptoms if I don't get time to read.

(You know I already have all your books :))

  16. I want to be taken away to a world where my problems don't exist. I want to live through the characters and feel the adventure and love they find!

  17. I read non-fiction to learn. I read non-fiction also to learn, but mostly to escape, to be turned on. I especially enjoy erotic fiction by female authors to get a women's point of view regarding love and lust and what sex with a man feels like to a women. For instance what it feels like to be penetrated by a large cock vs. a small one. I love women and i feel the more I learn about them, the better lover I'll be.

  18. I like to read because reading is my escape and my refuge. It is my anti-stress and my companion. I like to read everything. I love contemporary romance and paranormal. Thank you for this Kaily

  19. I love reading because I just love to read! For years I hated it because there want much out there to totally get lost in. With the uproar of contemporary romance I have found new passion in reading, and now writing. After all of life's crap, basically- it's my way of escape. It's my way of seeing the world in a better way than it is. That makes me happy. So thank you, to you and the wonderful authors of this genre for writing stories that make me swoon :0), and romanticize about true love being true!

  20. I read for entertainment, and occasionally for information. I've found that my reading tastes have changed over time. I've gone thru the horror, dectective/legal thriller, mystery phases. When I was in my 20s and starting my career, I loved stories about women making their way in the world. As I matured, I wanted stories about family dynamics.

One thing that has remained consistent, though, is that I've ALWAYS read romances. Now read mostly erotic romances because that's what I write -- although I read a variety of subgenres.

  21. Hi, Kaily!
As Ju said, writing helps fill the well. As a chronic pain sufferer, sometimes I can't sit at my desk or concentrate on writing, so I read. It's always been my escape from daily life, my way of disappearing or tuning out those around me when I can't stand the noise.

Don't get me wrong here. I love my family, but we all deserve a little down time in which to recoup. Reading a good book will do that for me.

I must admit, I haven't read any of yours yet, but the excerpts make me yearn to. Would love to win one. Thanks for giving me the chance.

  23. I read because I'm on the bus a lot and it makes the ride go quickly. It's also an escape from the mundane problems of life. Reading takes me to places and times I cannot go. Reading a good one now--Blind Traveler Down a Dark River by Robert P. Bennett.

  27. Hi Kaily! I read because its my escape. As much as I love being a wife and mother sometimes I just need a break and reading gives me that. My writing does too. Just being able to lose myself in another world for a while. Its helps me decompress.

    Have a wonderful night!

  28. When i am reading a book I go into that world and immerse myself in the characters lives. Reading to me is an opportunity to make new friends and live in another place.

  29. Wow, some wonderful, wonderful answers to the question I posted. Thanks so much to everyone for being so open and willing to share. For a writer I think it really helps to understand the reasons readers read. Many of the responses mirror my own reasons :). SO...selected by random function, the winner of a book is:
