It's a fresh week

It's the start of a new week and I'm feeling like it will be a productive one. I'm a little behind on polishing of my manuscript compared to where I wanted to be but I padded the back of the plan a little so should still be on track. I have been loitering again on the eharlequin forums. I get equally inspired and discouraged when I poke around over there. One the one hand it's great to see others striving like I am and making wonderful progress. On the other it's often discouraging to hear how long some of them have been waiting on responses to submissions to editors. This industry takes forever! I often think if I ever attain enough clout perhaps I can manage to shake some things up a bit and be an advocate for the struggling aspiring author! I guess they say you have to suffer for your art, right? I think all the wonderful ladies on the eharlequin forums more than qualify!

It's now 47 days since I submitted my partial to Harlequin Blaze (not that I'm counting or anything)!

  1. Hi Kaily...I saw your comment on eharlequin, and thought I should stop by. I'm working on polishing a requested full for Blaze right now, and hope to get it out in the mail in the next week or two. I waited almost 5 months to hear about my requested partial, so I know what you mean about counting days. Best idea is to have more than one thing circulating at all times if at all possible.

I talk about all this stuff on my blog...actually, if you're curious about my first experience with Blaze, if you go there and do a search for Brenda Chin, you'll see my rather long post.

Looking forward to getting to know you...I just sold my first erotic novella, Full Disclosure, to an epub recently, so I think we're in somewhat similar positions in our careers. :)

  2. Hi Cari,

WELCOME!!!! You have the dubious honor of being the first person to comment on my blog!!! EVER!! I almost missed it. I started this to see if I could actually blog (although I have been in the IT industry all my professional life social networking does not come naturally to me). It was an experiment of sorts; to train myself into the routine of blogging and to see if I actually had anything intersting to say.

Wow, 5 months. I'll try to manage my own expectations a little better. You must have been so excited to receive the request for the full. That means you can be a PRO member of RWA, right? Sweet...

I'll certainly check out your blog. Congratulations on the sale!! How awesome. Do you mind if I ask which epub? How long was the response wait time? I have been thinking of actively pursuing this route as I wait.

It does sound like we are on similar paths. So great to connect with someone who knows and understands where I'm at. I wish you all the very best and look forward to getting to know you better as well!!

  3. Hi again, Kally...I sold my first book to The Wild Rose Press. Their waits are actually usually pretty reasonable...I received my contract about a month after I submitted. Epubs are great for the more impatient among us. ;)

  4. Oh and I just realized I mistyped your name, Kaily...since everyone's always misspelling mine, I wanted to rectify my mistake. ;) Also forgot to say that I'm honored to be your first commenter! I started my blog last October and remember well how it felt to wait for a comment. Although, truthfully, I still wait for comments, LOL

I'm going to add you to my favorite authors list on my blog, by the way... :)

  5. Cari, thanks so much for adding me to YOUR blog. I am more than honored! I have been compiling a list of my favorite links and when I just get more than a few mins I'll get it up. You're awesome!
